Big Business: Direct Mail and the Post Office

The US Post Office is struggling, we all know that. In fact, most Americans know that the organization has has its share of challenges. And sadly, too many times we hear things like, “Let it fail,” or “Hey, do we really need the Post Office anyway?”

The answer is a resounding “yes!” We need the Post Office.

Big Business

The Post Office is the center of a $1.3 trillion a year industry that employs nearly 8 million people. That makes it a pretty big business. So, when the USPS suffers, it creates a ripple effect throughout the entire mailing industry, and a Post Office collapse would cause serious harm to the economy.

Yes, digital business and communications have eroded some of the Post Service’s business, but the USPS is just about the only business in existence that serves every US citizen and business. It keeps commerce flowing and connects the nation.

40% of the world’s mail is handled buy the USPS. It helps keep international business moving too.

The success of the USPS is important to not only the mailing and direct marketing industry, but all business. And it’s big business
